UPSC Mains exam syllabus in detail

The UPSC mains exam comprises nine theoretical papers, out of these seven papers are of 250 marks each and two qualifying papers are of 300 marks each. The candidates who have qualified the UPSC Prelims exams can only appear in the UPSC mains exam. The qualifying papers are of any Indian language and English language paper. Scoring 25% in these qualifying papers is a must to qualify the UPSC mains exams. The UPSC mains exams are meant to test the aspirant’s in-depth knowledge and talent. Out of the remaining seven papers one paper is of essay writing while the other four are of general studies and the remaining two papers are of optional subjects.
