IGCSE Class 10 Syllabus

The IGCSE Class 10 syllabus curated by the CAIE focuses on developing skills like creative thinking, enquiry & problem-solving among students. The syllabus is a blend of both practical and theoretical knowledge. The IGCSE Class 10 syllabus prepares students for further academic success and employment.

IGCSE Class 10 Syllabus for All Subjects

The IGCSE syllabus covers a wide range of subjects for Class 10 students. Each student needs to choose at least 10 subjects. The IGCSE syllabus for Class 10 is grouped into five categories:

Group 1 (Compulsory): First language English, Foreign language (French/Spanish) or Second language (Hindi)

Group 2 (Mandatory): World literature, global perspectives, Geography/History

Group 3 (Any 1): Physics, Chemistry, Biology (all 3) or coordinated sciences

Group 4: International Mathematics, Additional Mathematics (optional)

Group 5 (Creative, Technical & Vocational): Art & Design, Business Studies, Computer Science, Drama, Physical Education (optional)

In Class 10, students need to study English, French/Spanish or Hindi from Group 1, World literature & global perspectives from Group 2 & International Mathematics from Group 4. If they choose Physics, Chemistry & Biology from Group 3, they need to choose a subject from Group 2 (History/ Geography) and 5. Also, they can choose two subjects from Sciences and can opt for History or Geography.

Additionally, students can opt for various sporting and non-sporting activities.

Economics: Major topics covered in the IGCSE Economics syllabus are - microeconomics & macroeconomics, role of markets in allocating resources, causes of price changes, microeconomic decision makers, government & the macroeconomics, economic development & international trade & globalisation.

English Language: The IGCSE Class 10 syllabus covers several interesting topics that will help students to develop reading skills, writing skills, writing summaries, commenting on language techniques, directed writing, speaking & listening and composition writing.

Business Studies: Various topics like business aims & types of organisations, human resources, marketing, finance, operations management & external influences on businesses are covered in the IGCSE syllabus.

History: The IGCSE History syllabus covers various topics including the First World War, Peace Treaties of 1919-1923, League of Nations, big picture of 20th century, Cold War, USA containing spread of communism, USSR’s control over Eastern Europe (1948-1989), events in Gulf from 1970-2000, the First World War (1914-18), Germany (1914-45), Russia (1905-41) & US (1919-41).

Geography: Various important topics have been covered in the IGCSE Geography syllabus. Some of the topics are:

Biology: Students are taught several interesting topics like cells, movement in and out of cells, chemicals of life, enzymes, plant nutrition, animal nutrition, transport in plants or animals, pathogens & immunity, respiration process, excretion, coordination & response, homeostasis, drugs, reproduction in plants/humans, inheritance, variation & natural selection, organisms & their environment, humans & the environment & biotechnology.
