IB Class 6 Syllabus for All Subjects

Language and Literature: The IB Board curriculum for Class 6 Language and Literature aims to develop and support students’ understanding of the subject by providing them with opportunities to independently and collaboratively investigate, take action and reflect on their learning. The syllabus covers literary and non-literary text types, writing styles and techniques for learners to explore and learn. The course is designed to help students develop an appreciation of the nature of Language and Literature, the many influences they have and of their power and beauty.

Individuals and Societies: The subject is taught to children through real-life situations. The curriculum for Class 6 has been divided into three categories of discrete courses, integrated courses and modular courses. This encourages children to respect and understand the world around them.

Science: The subject is taught as an integrated subject in Level 1-3 of the MYP - Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences. Through this subject, the academic board gives students opportunities to relate every taught concept with real-life situations and to find the link with other subjects. The subject aspires to develop scientifically-informed, caring and responsible individuals who can think critically and make informed choices about themselves, the environment and society.

Mathematics: Topics that Class 6 students of IB Board study in Mathematics include whole numbers and decimals, data and graphs, patterns and variables, fractions, ratios, proportions, percentages, geometry and measurement, probability, integers, equations, and inequalities. Mathematics aims to equip all students with knowledge, understanding and intellectual capabilities.

Arts: Arts plays a very critical role in instilling in children the skills to imagine, the ability to challenge perceptions and develop analytical and creative capabilities. Getting involved in the subject encourages students to understand the context and cultural histories of artworks. It provides students with the tools for generating creative thought and encourages creative behaviours across all subject groups and foster lifelong learning.

Physical and Health Education: Through this subject, the IB Board intends to teach students the value and need of being physically active. It also helps them make informed and healthy choices that benefit them in the long term. The Physical and Health Education course for Class 6 focuses on the development of knowledge, skills and attitudes through the use of physical activities.

Design: Design courses can be offered in different ways such as a distinct digital and/or product design course, a series of distinct digital and/or product design courses and a single course which combines digital and product design. It focuses more towards the process than the final product or solution.
