CBSE Board Class 12 Syllabus

Class 12th is considered as the turning point in student’s academic careers as the results of Class 12th boards will decide their future career options. CBSE Class 12th syllabus is divided into two terms: Term 1 and Term 2. CBSE Class 12 provides the right path for students for their studies. So, they need to prepare for their board exams accordingly. By understanding the syllabus, students can perform well in their exams and prepare for each subject thoroughly. Referring to the syllabus of Class 12th will help students to get clarity on what topics they need to cover. CBSE class 12th syllabus is also necessary for students who are preparing for competitive exams like NEET, IIT-JEE, CLAT, CA-CPT, etc.

CBSE Class 12 Syllabus for All Subjects

CBSE customises the syllabus according to the streams students have chosen in Class 11. They need to study the same subjects that they chose in Class 11.

For the students opting for the science stream, the CBSE Board Class 12 curriculum will include five compulsory subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, and 2 additional subjects along with one optional subject.

The syllabus also explains the format of the question paper which can help students to identify the type of questions that they could expect in exams. For this, students need to seek proper guidance and do regular self-study.

Students opting for the commerce stream will need to study subjects like Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, English, and 1 additional subject which a student might choose.

Students opting for Arts and Humanities will study subjects like Geography, Economics, Psychology, History, Political Science, Philosophy, Sociology, Legal Studies, Media Studies, Fine Arts, Fashion Studies, English, Human Rights and Gender Studies.

As per the National Education Policy 2020, students are allowed to choose subjects from many disciplines. They will be able to select skill electives and choose to study different Indian and Foreign languages.

Languages include Hindi, English, and other 30 languages. The curricula in languages focus on listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and developing effective communicative proficiency. Learners use language to comprehend, acquire and communicate ideas.

Subjects like Dance, Drama, Music, Heritage Crafts, Fine Arts, Sculpture, and related subjects aim to help learners cultivate interest and appreciation for arts and encourage them to enthusiastically participate in related activities, thus, promoting abilities such as imagination, creativity, value arts, and the cultural heritage.

Skill Electives help in the development of professional competencies, which are analytical, applied, and outcome-based. Undergoing skills training in schools can help students learn about a trade progressively to create a product and also to become problem solvers in real life. At present many Skill electives are being offered by the Board in the fields of Hospitality and Tourism, emerging technology like Artificial Intelligence, Geospatial Technology, Finance, Business, Retail & Insurance, etc. Students can also choose subjects from diverse areas such as Fashion Design, Agriculture, Banking, Mass-Media Healthcare, and many more. Skill electives are offered along with compulsory subjects, as per the scheme of studies.

General Studies, Health and Physical Education (Work Education has been subsumed), Yoga, traditional games, indigenous sports, NCC, Scouts and Guides, Martial Arts, etc. are an integral part of the curriculum and would be in the routine of the schools for the holistic development of children. A candidate can also undertake an additional elective which may either be a language at the elective level or, any other elective subject.
